New Las Vegas Hangars Target the Jets Miami Charters Fly

SR Aviation Infrastructure broke ground Oct. 20 on a 75,000-square-foot hangar complex at Harry Reid International Airport, the Las Vegas Review-Journal reported. The project adds ramp capacity for the large-cabin jets that make the 1,884 nm run between Las Vegas and Miami.

What was announced

SR Aviation Infrastructure, a subsidiary of New York- and Nashville-based SomeraRoad, started construction on three 25,000-square-foot hangars on the west side of Harry Reid International Airport, per the Review-Journal. The site sits on Reno Avenue next to the Strip. The company did not disclose financial terms.

Each new building houses up to six moderately sized corporate aircraft, the Review-Journal reported. The project replaces 14 of 37 existing hangars on a 23-acre complex. Completion is expected in the first quarter of 2028, when the site will hold 26 individually leased hangars totaling about 315,000 square feet, all with direct runway access.

Jonathon Reeser, president of SR Aviation Infrastructure, told the Review-Journal the demand comes from growth in corporate flying and leisure-event traffic: "It's for what we call general aviation to accommodate larger scale private jets that either corporations use, high-net-worth individuals and even government uses." He said the existing infrastructure dates to 1985.

Why Miami charter flyers should care

Las Vegas is a two-way market for South Florida. Our listed Las Vegas to Miami route runs 1,884 nm, a trip we class as best flown in a super-midsize jet, priced at $32,500 to $45,000 each way. More hangar space at the Nevada end affects where those aircraft sit and how quickly they can be staged for a return leg.

The same applies in reverse. A Miami-based super-midsize aircraft booked to Las Vegas has to park somewhere on arrival. Ground space at the destination is part of the trip, not a separate detail, and new leasable hangars with direct runway access change the options operators have on that end.

The Miami-side numbers

Florida's registry shows 1,569 jets statewide, with 259 based in the local Miami area, per our site data. The most common local models are the Hawker 800 series at 19 aircraft, the Gulfstream IV/G450 at 16, and the Embraer Phenom 300 at 15. Those are light-to-heavy categories, and heavy jets run $9,500 to $14,500 per hour on our rate sheet.

On the airport side, Miami-Opa Locka Executive (KOPF) has an 8,002-foot longest runway and four FBOs: Atlantic Aviation, Signature Aviation, Jet Aviation and Fontainebleau Aviation. Miami International (KMIA) runs a 13,016-foot runway with Signature Aviation. Fort Lauderdale Hollywood International (KFLL) has 9,000 feet and three FBOs. Long runways matter for the heavy cabin flying the Las Vegas leg.

Season shapes the calendar too. Our search data puts the Miami-Ft. Lauderdale peak in February and the low in September.

What this does and does not change

Construction at Harry Reid does not add aircraft to the Miami market or change Florida pricing. It adds leasable hangar capacity at a destination our customers fly to, roughly 315,000 square feet once the full complex is done in 2028.

We arrange charter with Part 135 operators; we do not own the hangars at either end. For a Las Vegas trip, the practical questions stay the same: aircraft class, crew duty time and where the jet overnights. The Review-Journal report does not state lease rates or which operators have committed to the new buildings.
